During the past many years, Vietnam has continuously held the number 1 position in the world in cashew nut export. In the global context that is seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese cashew industry still strives to maintain this highest ranking.

 

Over the past 30 years, from a country that exports raw cashew in small quantities, Vietnam has become the leading cashew nut exporter in the world.

According to the Vietnam Cashew Association - Vinacas, if in 1990, Vietnam started to export cashew kernels with a volume of 286 tons, worth $ 1.4 million, then in 1995, the volume of cashew kernels exported export reached 15,000 tons, worth 90 million USD. In 1996, for the first time, cashew kernel export value reached 110 million USD. In 2004, for the first time, the quantity of cashew kernel exported reached more than 105 thousand tons equivalent to the export value of 436 million USD. By 2006, for the first time, Vietnam surpassed India to rise to the number 1 position in the world in cashew kernel export when reaching nearly 127 thousand tons, worth $ 504 million.

For 15 consecutive years, from 2006 to 2020, even in difficult times, the Vietnamese cashew industry has always maintained its No. 1 position in cashew nut export and completely mastered technology and processing equipment. From 2017 up to now, Vietnam has become the world's No. 1 cashew processing and import-export center, accounting for more than 50% of processed raw cashew. In 2020, according to statistics from the General Department of Customs, although heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, cashew nut exports still reach nearly 515 thousand tons, worth $ 3.21 billion, up 13%. in volume, but down 2.3% in value compared to 2019. According to Vinacas, in 30 years, from 1990 to the end of 2020, the cashew industry has exported over 4.6 million tons of cashew nuts, with a total value estimated at more than 31 billion USD. Especially in the past 10 years, thanks to the application of science and technology, mechanization and automation of the cashew processing industry, it has solved many previously raised problems such as labor scarcity, environmental pollution to management. product quality, especially the issue of ensuring food safety and hygiene, is of great concern to cashew importing countries.

In 2021, Vietnam aims to export cashew nuts to 3.6 billion USD, up 12.9% compared to 2020. The Vietnamese cashew industry will continue to persevere with the goal of "keeping quantity, increasing quality and increasing prices. "in manufacturing and trading in the year 2021 and the following years. According to VINACAS, the supply of cashew nuts in 2021 is quite stable. The total cashew area of ​​Vietnam in 2021 will reach 297,000 ha, equal to 99.7% compared to 2020. Meanwhile, large cashew exporters had orders for the first quarter of 2021. With the above positive signals, Vietnam's cashew nut exports will be favorable in 2021.
