According to the People's Committee of Ben Tre province, identifying coconut as a strategic crop in the economic development process, the locality has promoted investment in the coconut processing industry as well as implemented many solutions to further expand the domestic consumption market and export of coconut products in the near future.

Director of Ben Tre Department of Industry and Trade said that the unit regularly updates market situation, commodity information, market forecasts, and business opportunities through the Department of Industry and Trade website, internet system, and business support group.

The Department of Industry and Trade continues to support businesses with trade promotion activities to strengthen the domestic market, while focusing on supporting businesses to organize trade delegations combined with trade conferences, participate in exhibitions abroad, especially countries in free trade agreements (EVFTA, CPTPP, UKVFTA, RCEP).

On the other hand, the Department of Industry and Trade supports businesses and cooperatives to promote the application of information technology, promote trade in the digital environment, and e-commerce to introduce and promote product and business brands, improve production and business efficiency and expand markets. At the same time, organize training and coaching to raise awareness, qualifications, legal knowledge, and e-commerce application skills; support provincial products and OCOP products to be listed on the e-commerce platform.

In 2021, the province continues to issue Resolution No. 07-NQ/TU on building concentrated production areas, associated with developing the value chain of key agricultural products in Ben Tre province for the period 2020-2025 and orientation to 2030.

The Provincial People's Committee has issued many plans and official dispatches to direct sectors and levels to build concentrated production areas and develop agricultural value chains, especially coconut trees.

To date, Ben Tre has more than 23,700 hectares of coconut participating in the value chain, accounting for over 30% of the province's total coconut area. Among them, the total area of organic coconut is over 18,000 hectares and the area certified is 11,630 hectares according to US, Japanese and European Union (EU) standards. Currently, Ben Tre coconut products are present in the markets of more than 90 countries and territories, increasingly entering high-standard and potential markets such as Europe, America, and the Middle East.

Achieving the above outstanding results is thanks to the correct and timely policies and directions of the province, and the joint contributions of localities, businesses and coconut growers have participated in building local coconut pepper chains. In particular, recently, the orientation to open fresh coconut exports to the US and Chinese markets has created new momentum for the coconut industry.

Although the coconut processing industry in Ben Tre has just been established not long ago, it has grown steadily and is quite diverse in terms of products. The coconut processing industry consumes about 85% of the total amount of coconut harvested in the province and accounts for a large proportion compared to the processing industry, which is considered a key economic sector of the province.

With the existing coconut area and output, along with the growing coconut processing industry, Ben Tre province has a lot of potential to develop coconut and coconut products. Accordingly, the province aims to strive for an average increase in coconut production and processing value of 17.2%/year, an average increase in export turnover of 23.6%/year and reach 1 billion USD by 2025.
