(15/2/2019) Australia is a country in the southern hemisphere, importing a significant amount of pepper annually from producing countries

 

 

In the past three years, Australia has imported almost equal amounts of pepper and ground pepper, but the total import has fluctuated, increasing 4% in 3 years but decreasing by 42% of total import value.

 

In 2016, Australia imported a total of 3,689 tons, of which pepper accounted for 52% or 1,916 tons. Average import of 307 tons per month, the highest import volume was in July, reaching 419 tons. Total spending on pepper imported into Australia in 2016 was USD 36 million, the average import price was USD 10,245 / ton for pepper and USD 9,269 / ton for ground pepper.

 

In 2017, Australia increased 9% of pepper import volume compared to the previous year, totaling 4,012 tons, including 1,968 tons of pepper and 2,044 tons of ground pepper. Calculated an average of 334 tons per month, the highest is entered in September 2017 of 603 tons. However, the value of Australian pepper purchased in 2017 only lost 27 million US dollars, 24% lower than 2016. The average purchase price was 7,043 USD / ton pepper and 6,716 USD / ton ground pepper.

In 2018 Australia imported a total of 3,828 tons, of which 2,103 tons of pepper, down 5% from the previous year. In 2018, Australia imported an average of 319 tons per month, the highest in January 2018 to 528 tons. In total, Australia bought $ 21 million of pepper in 2018, which is 24% less than the previous year. The average price of pepper in Australia is USD 5,866 / ton pepper and USD 5,076 / ton pepper.

 

In the past three years, the largest exporters of pepper into Australia are Vietnam, South Africa, Indonesia and India. Vietnam contributes 53%, 55% and 60% of total imports for 2016, 2017 and 2018. In 2018, Australia imported pepper from Vietnam to 1,263 tons, South Africa 224 tons, India 208 tons and Indonesia 112 tons.
