Pepper prices in the global market today, July 29, 2023, saw adjustments with increases for pepper from Indonesia and Vietnam. The price of black pepper from Lampung, Indonesia, closed at 3,733 USD/ton, rising 0.19%; black pepper from Brazil ASTA 570 was at 2,900 USD/ton; and black pepper from Kuching, Malaysia ASTA maintained its level at 4,900 USD/ton.

White pepper from Muntok increased to 6,463 USD/ton, up 0.19%; while white pepper from Malaysia ASTA remained at 7,300 USD/ton.

Vietnam's black pepper was traded at 3,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l and 3,600 USD/ton for 550 g/l, while white pepper was priced at 5,100 USD/ton, showing a 1.96% increase. This adjustment in Vietnam's pepper export prices by the International Pepper Community comes after a period of stability.

In addition to the disappointing harvests in Indonesia and Brazil, India's recent decision to ban the export of certain food items and agricultural products has caused turmoil in the global commodity market.

In the first half of July 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 7,063 tons, with a trade value of 26.05 million USD, bringing the total exports in the first 6.5 months of the year to 159,715 tons, an increase of 20.39% in volume but a decrease of 14.75% in value compared to the same period last year. The average export price of pepper during this period was 3,688 USD/ton, showing a 2.08% increase compared to the average export price in June 2023.
