According to experts, from January to June 2023, the domestic pepper prices in Malaysia have been recovering. The recovery is expected to accelerate further in the second half of the year. There is a possibility that pepper prices may increase by 10% or even 20% from the current levels.

This recovery is attributed to the reopening of borders as the COVID pandemic starts to ease. After China reopened its borders, pepper prices surged due to increased demand, as China had not imported pepper during the previous two years of the pandemic. However, prices started to decline afterward.
