Domestic Black Pepper Prices
Today, on July 28, 2023, domestic black pepper prices have increased by 500 VND/kg after several sideways sessions. As a result, traders are buying black pepper in the Central Highlands provinces at around 67,000 – 68,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, in Chu Se (Gia Lai), black pepper is being purchased by traders at 67,000 VND/kg, with a rise of 500 VND/kg. The black pepper prices in Dak Lak and Dak Nong have also increased by 500 VND/kg to reach 68,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeastern region, black pepper prices have reversed the trend and are currently decreasing. The prices in this region are being bought at around 68,000 – 69,500 VND/kg.
In Dong Nai, black pepper is priced at 68,500 VND/kg, with an increase of 500 VND/kg. In Binh Phuoc, black pepper is being purchased at 69,000 VND/kg, also with a rise of 500 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Ba Ria Vung Tau still maintains the highest price, with traders buying black pepper at 70,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg.
Exactly, after several sideways sessions, today's domestic black pepper prices have increased in the domestic market.
Today, pepper prices have unexpectedly risen again.
World pepper prices on July 28, 2023
At the end of yesterday's trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed a decline in prices for Indonesian pepper. Specifically, black pepper from Lampung, Indonesia, closed at 3,726 USD/ton, down 0.16%; and Muntok white pepper was priced at 6,451 USD/ton, showing a decrease of 0.17%.
For other countries, pepper prices remained stable. Specifically, Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at 2,900 USD/ton; Malaysian ASTA black pepper in Kuching maintained its price at 4,900 USD/ton; and Malaysian ASTA white pepper remained at 7,300 USD/ton.
Vietnamese black pepper traded at 3,500 USD/ton for the 500 g/l type and 3,600 USD/ton for the 550 g/l type. White pepper was priced at 5,000 USD/ton.
According to experts, from January to June 2023, the domestic pepper prices in Malaysia have been recovering. The recovery is expected to accelerate further in the second half of the year. There is a possibility that pepper prices may increase by 10% or even 20% from the current levels.
This recovery is attributed to the reopening of borders as the COVID pandemic starts to ease. After China reopened its borders, pepper prices surged due to increased demand, as China had not imported pepper during the previous two years of the pandemic. However, prices started to decline afterward.
