|March,25th, 2024
According to the latest preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, from the beginning of 2024 to March 15, the whole country has 5 billion-dollar export commodity groups of the agricultural industry: Wood and wood products, coffee, and seafood produce, vegetables, rice.
Leading in turnover is wood and wood products, bringing in 2.86 billion USD, an increase of approximately 30% over the same period last year. Coffee exports ranked second and reached a turnover of 1.574 billion USD, an increase of 61.1%. Seafood ranked third and reached 1.546 billion USD, an increase of nearly 10.6%. Rice reached 1.06 billion USD, up 53.7%, fruit reached 1.03 billion USD, up 40.3% over the same period.
The fact that all 5 product groups achieved high double-digit growth results is a positive sign in the context of global trade decline in 2023, causing many groups to experience a sharp decline in turnover compared to 2022, of which including wood and wood products and aquatic products.
The results achieved above are considered record numbers in the first months of the year for exports of these important industries.
The main export markets of the agricultural sector are the United States, China, EU, Japan, ASEAN...
Coffee is one of five commodity groups that bring in more than 1 billion USD in the agricultural industry after 2.5 months.
With a positive start and forecast of favorable factors of the world and domestic economy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sets an agricultural, forestry and fishery export target of 55 billion USD in 2024.
Accordingly, agricultural product groups continue to contribute highly to the export turnover of the entire agricultural sector, including: coffee; Vegetables; rice...
Continuing last year's growth momentum, export orders for this product group are abundant from the beginning of 2024. Besides rice, vegetables and coffee, exports of many agricultural product groups are expected to continue to prosper thanks to high energy. Our country's production, processing and supply capacity is increasingly improving.
In 2023, rice export will become a bright spot with over 8 million tons successfully exported, bringing in nearly 4.7 billion USD. According to calculations from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), by 2024, along with ensuring food security, Vietnam can fully export over 8 million tons of rice.
Fruits and vegetables are forecast to bring in about 6.5 - 7 billion USD, thanks to the acceleration of many fruits, especially durian and many other products such as dragon fruit, mango, banana... Meanwhile, Vietnam's coffee export turnover in 2024 is forecast to reach 4.6 - 5 billion USD, far exceeding the 4.2 billion USD achieved last year.
Total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in 2023 will reach 53.01 billion USD. Trade surplus reached a record of 12.07 billion USD, an increase of 43.7% compared to 2022.
