(April 25,2019) The price of pepper today April 25, 2019 still maintained a sideways trend in most localities growing key pepper in the Central Highlands and the South while the world pepper price increased by nearly 2%.

According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), the oversupply situation for pepper in the world has not yet ended. Meanwhile, 95% of
Vietnam's pepper is used for export, so the world market factor greatly affects domestic pepper prices.Besides, other pepper growing
countries like Brazil and Cambodia also increased their area. Year-to-year inventory accumulates, causing excess supply to meet demand.
The situation of oversupply for pepper is not only in Vietnam but in the world is not over. Meanwhile, 95% of Vietnam's pepper is used for
export, so the world market factor greatly affects domestic pepper prices.
This is the consequence of disrupting pepper planning. In the period of 2013 - 2014, the price reached a record, peoplemassively cultivated
pepper. There are even soil and climate conditions that are not suitable for pepper trees but people deliberately plant them.
As a result, within 5 years (from 2013 to 2018), the pepper area has tripled from 53,000 to 152,000 hectares. Meanwhile, according to
Decision 1442 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the plan to 2020, the vision of 2030 pepper growing areas nationwide
remains stable at 50,000 ha.
With the current price, compared to the beginning of 2019, it has dropped by 13% to an average of 44,500 VND / kg.
World pepper prices increased sharply by nearly 2%
Today April 25, 2019 at 10:00 am, Vietnam time, spot world pepper prices on Kochi India floor, black pepper export price increased slightly by
1.15% compared to yesterday's world spot price at the floor. Kochi (India) is Rs 35,250 / quintal.
Prices of pepper on the SMX (Singapore) in September remained unchanged, at USD 6,500 / ton.

The Export and Import Department said global pepper prices fluctuate in a narrow range due to the expected shortage of Indian pepper harvest, which will be offset by Vietnam's large inventory.

Currently hundreds of acres of pepper in India are threatened by drought wilt due to drought. However, Vietnam's pepper inventory is still high, expecting a bumper harvest of Sri Lankan in the new harvest season from April.

According to the International Pepper Association (IPA), Sri Lanka's pepper production in 2019 is expected to reach 26,700 tons, an increase of 44% over the 2018 crop.

"Therefore, the abundant supply of pepper and the consumption demand in the world have no signs of increasing strongly, the pepper price is forecasted to be unlikely to increase strongly in the coming time", the Import and Export Department said. .
