According to VPSA's data, Vietnam imported 16,052 tons of various types of pepper seeds in the first 5 months of the year, a 28.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Among these, Brazil was the largest supplier to Vietnam with 7,106 tons, holding a 44.3% market share. Cambodia followed with 5,675 tons, capturing 35.4% of the market.
Vietnam is one of the world's leading countries in supplying spice products, with an export turnover of about USD 1.5 billion annually. Vietnamese spices are now exported to over 125 countries, dominating many important markets. This sector accounts for 95% of exported goods, thus requiring focus on deep processing and trade promotion to enhance value-added.
Key export markets for Vietnamese spices include the United States, the European Union (EU), India, and China. However, exports to India and China have been declining recently. To fully exploit the export potential of Vietnamese spices, there is a need to intensify the development of high-quality, organic cultivation areas and focus on deep processing to increase value. Additionally, trade promotion plays a crucial role in bringing Vietnamese spices to global consumers.
